From the imposition of the curfew in Honduras for 26 hours, thousands of people have gone out into the streets from all parts of the country in a frank rebellion against this order, to arrive in Tegucigalpa, in view of the call from the Resistance to stay ready to fight.

Thus, throughout the night, dozens of caravans of cars and on foot, in a frank rebellion against the curfew, filled the main avenues and highways. Meanwhile, in the same way, thousands of people in Tegucigalpa, mainly young people, were calling among the neighborhoods, for people to come out of their houses; in less than an hour, there were already more than 10,000, especially youths.

At this time, the army is keeping patrols at all the entrances to the city to prevent the caravans from entering, and there have been multiple confrontations throughout the country.

The biggest of them was the brutal confrontation at 5 a.m. at the Brazilian Embassy, where hundreds of policemen and soldiers evicted the enormous contingent of 50,000 people, who were there during the night; tear gas canisters and lead bullets have been shot for more than two hours up to now, leaving dozens of people unconscious on the floor and passing over them. From this began the wave of charges about people seriously wounded, people who have disappeared and people arrested, made by telephone to Radio Globo, which is broadcasting surreptitiously from someplace in the country; it has been confirmed by Cholusat that at least 2 people have died.

Up to now, a large number of gas canisters have been shot through the windows of the Embassy, to force Zelaya to leave the Embassy, and the walls of an adjoining house are being torn down, in order to enter the Embassy. Pickup trucks have arrived, and hundreds of soldiers are awaiting the order to enter the Embassy. Zelaya had to interrupt an interview to take shelter in the back and to be able to breathe through a window. From the headquarters, cries for help to the population to push back the army are heard, but, at the same time, up to ten minutes ago, Zelaya was continuing to call for dialogue with the coup plotters. The doors have been opened to dozens of young people, who resisted the repression by covering the doors, and now they are placing their bodies to protect the officials who are there inside.

Bertha Oliva, Coordinator of COFADEH, has just denounced the opening of two illegal detention centers, one set up in Chochisosa and the other in the San Francisco headquarters, to which those arrested and wounded are being taken.

Radio Globo is comparing what has happened during the night and in these morning hours, to Pinochet’s dictatorship and is asking the population not to be intimidated by the repression and to continue arriving in Tegucigalpa and is asking the population to shelter the people who are fleeing through the streets, charging that [the repressive forces] are shooting from motorcycles at anyone who is running through the streets.
